Winter 2008

New Year, New Start

For many of us 2009 can't come soon enough given the global, political and economic events of this past year. Although we can be overwhelmed by these events, we need to learn how keep them in perspective and take time to reflect on and celebrate our accomplishments and the accomplishments of those close to us. We need to look back at those times over the past year that might have appeared ordinary and see the extraordinary in them.

Accomplishments are those successes that have marked the high points in any of the roles we play, for e.g., as an employee, volunteer, or family member. These accomplishments represent those times in our life when we made a difference, big or small. Acknowledging these accomplishments gives us the sustenance to start 2009 with a renewed sense of optimism.

Here is challenge for you to take on as an individual or as part of a work group:

  1. Make a list of your accomplishments in 2008.
  2. What have you learned about yourself over the past year?
  3. What qualities or skills did you develop?
  4. What qualities or skills would you like to develop in 2009?
  5. Now share those accomplishments with others and provide an opportunity for them to share theirs. Feedback affirms where we shine.
  6. Finally, keep that list of accomplishments close by and pull it out anytime in 2009 when you feel life is getting overwhelming for you.

2008 has been full of accomplishments for donnerwheeler. Highlights include:
